The first centre of the ancient Castrum Fagetum (or Castrum Vetulum) was on the Mount Serrone, on its paths it is possible to experience an unspoiled environment. The Castle was located in a place that was constantly reached by sea waves, whereas the village stretched towards the coast.

The water erosion caused a series of devastating landslides in late 17th century, and many remains still emerge from the waves. For this reason the inhabitants moved in late 18th century to the wide plains along the coast.

Today Pedaso is a charming small town amidst the Mediterranean bush, and its small and hospitable centre is relatively recent and full of small streets.

These lead visitors to admire remarkable architectural structures, such as the Neo-gothic church Santa Maria e San Pietro Apostolo (1920), the Town Hall with the Clock Tower and the Lighthouse – a symbol of Pedaso as a seaside town, which seems to be watching over the remains of the past.

In summer, the streets come to life with voices and colours, with the small markets and the various events that take place in the central square. Streets in Pedaso were named after simple everyday things; examples are Vicolo del Pero, Via dell’Uva.

The delicious mussels seem to be playing with the natural rocks that emerge from the seabed. They are caught in the Adriatic Sea and are much appreciated by diving enthusiasts, so much that a renowned festival is dedicated to mussels in August.

Visitors have the chance to admire a valuable marine flora and fauna, as well as a long gravelly beach.

During the abovementioned festival it is possible to taste the savoury spaghetti marinara (with a seafood sauce).
