Monte Urano, built on the top of the hill, offers to tourists a panoramic view towards the Adriatic coast and,  from the opposite side, to the Sibillini mountains.

In the past, this village followed  the events of Fermo: in fact in the medieval chronicle, many persons were involved in heroic fights broke out to defend the boundaries from neighbouring castles.that persisted until the begining of 1600.

In 1796 Monte Urano put up a strong and bloody resistence to Napoleon’s troops.

Until the end of the 19th century its economy was based on agriculture but at present, Monte Urano is one of the most important producer of shoes for children in the world.

The historical centre is surrounded by a castle with triangular plant which includes two beautiful entrance doors: “Porta dell’Orologio”,  built in the 18th century, is characterized by a clock with manual works still acting, and the ancient “Porta del Sole” so-called for its exposure to the sun.

In the narrow lanes which lead to small squares, visitors can live again the atmosphere of semplicity of this village. In the highest part of the historical centre, near the remains of the walls, rises the poligonal civic tower (13th century) but in 1943 a terrible earthquake caused the collapse of its cupola.

The adjacent ex-church dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo (patron of Monte Urano) has become a school; the new parish church,  built together with the Town Hall at the end of 19th century, is in the  square near the public gardens. It’s in this place that  visitors can admire the splendid view to the Adriatic sea and Apennines.

With the purpose to mantein an equilibrium between modernity and tradition, Monte Urano proposes numerous events as the Carnival or the important feast to celebrate San Michele Arcangelo but, in each case,  the real protagonist is the local population.
