According to what the tradition says, Magliano di Tenna, placed on an isolated hill that dominates the beautiful valleys lying bellow, has been founded by a mercenary leader called Majano, that in the 11th century decided to settle in this area founding the ancient Castrum Ultra Tomian.
Others suppose the name derives from Manli that was an important roman family; but if there are only hypothesis about the foundation of this village, certain is the magical atmosphere characterizing the beautiful walls built in the 14th century which surround the historical centre full of places of interest. Looking back at the past, it’s possible to immagine the gesture of sentinels that garrison the six majestic towers and since then, in the eternal motion of centuries, the suggestive shadows coasted by the hexagonal towers, slide on the street of the centre, touching lightly the church of San Gregorio (that conceals the pre-existent farfense chapel painted in fresco by Vincenzo Pagani) and the ancient stones of the church of Madonna di Loreto (known as Madonna delle Grazie) built in the 15th century where is the “Crucifixion” painted in fresco.
