Lapedona

The harmony of its centre is due to the Benedictine monks of Farfa and Fonte Avellana which, in the 11th century, built churches and monasteries.

Surrounded by a ring of intact walls, Lapedona still preserves the original medieval doors (“Porta Marina” and “Porta da Sole”); the centre dominates from the top of the hill the panorama of gentle hills crossed by streams.

The Town Hall, with its irregular porch built in the 16th century, overlooks the main square which leads to suggestive lanes characterized by many places of interest as the church of San Giacomo (with the beautiful “Madonna con bambino” in wood) and the church of San Nicolň (where are held in custody important paintings of Simone De Magistris and Giuseppe Ghezzi) both built in the 14th century but successively changed.

In “da Piedi” district rises the ex-collegiata of Saints Pietro and Lorenzo while out of centre, there are some romanic churches of remarkable interest: San Pietro, the small Madonna Manů and the church of Saints Quirico and Gillette enriched with a crypt and paintings.

Its small districts disseminated in a multi-coloured landscape, where cohabit well-managed lands and a luxuriant vegetation, seem to play a game to attract the attention and to capture the emotions of anybody can admire them.

The enchantment transforms itself in amazement when visitors meet able ruzzola players; this sport  typical of this region, takes place in slopes and curved roads where the players launch rounded pieces of wood similar to a whole cheese (in fact in the past they used to play with a whole cheese).

At last, can be sealed up the love between this beautiful place and its guests with a delicious dish of gnocchi and the aromatic flavour of wine.
