In this territory it has been found many graves which dated back to the VII century and which contained carts, arms, ornaments, vases.

The most prosperous period is the Roman period which, after the construction of the Temple dedicated to goddess Cupra for a work ship of Etruscan and Sabine origin, gave imulse and origin to the town of Cupra Marittima.

Even Strabone, Pomponio Mela and Plinio spoke about this. The old town was very large, as testify till today the ruins of the Tempio dei Cesari.

Now days Cupra Marittima is an old-fashioned seaside backwater with not too many hotels and a jolly family feel - if you're from the UK, it's a place that might bring back memories of a 1950's holiday resort in Devon. Maybe it's the lush vegetation - pines, palms and oleander - that gives Cupra Marittima its relaxed charm.
