The passion of a sophisticated and cultured art collector relives in the masterpieces of the great artists, restoring 17th century magnificence to an ancient residence. The visions of beauty seen by Cardinal Giambattista Pallotta, a refined politician in Baroque Rome and the Pontifical Legate in Emilia, have again brought luster to Caldarola, a genuine architectonical and urban treasure, through the restoration of the masterpieces by Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Guercino, Mattia Preti, Giovanni Lanfranco, Carlo Maratta, Domenichino, Annibale and Ludovico Carracci. This great collection had been taken apart and dispersed by the heirs of the Cardinal to gather money and pay for the many debts accumulated by the creator of this art collection, Cardinal Giambattista Pallotta, following his death in 1668. The story narrated to the public through a new prestigious exhibit, coordinated by Vittorio Sgarbi in Caldarola (Mc) from May 23rd to November 12th 2009, is not just an ordinary tale. This exhibit, catalogue by Silvana Editoriale, is already being announced as one of the most important events in the ambit of the offer of the Marches Region, a region which is placing evermore importance in placing a spotlight on its artistic, historic and cultural heritage. The Scientific Committee of the exhibit “The Cardinal’s Rooms. Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Guercino and Mattia Preti for Cardinal Pallotta” is presided over by Denis Mahon and includes Lorenza Mochi Onori, Livia Carloni, and Stefano Papetti, coordinated by Liana Lippi. It is being promoted by the City of Caldarola in collaboration with the Marches Regional Superintendence for Historic, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage and the contribution of the Marches Region, the Province of Macerata and the Carima Foundation.
